This course, Social Media Marketing, has taught me a lot about the importance of social networks in the business world. Social media is becoming a bigger and bigger part of everyone's lives. They are constantly tweeting, posting, pinning, and just about anything "ingy."
To take advantage of this with my business, I would definitely have a Facebook account, a Twitter account, a Pinterest, and a blog for my business. All of these are extremely effective ways to connect with your target market and to reach new people. So these are the ones that I would recommend to anyone who is looking to start a new business or someone who has a existing business and wants to keep in touch with their customers in a way that they are familiar with and already are using in their everyday lives.

Open the Door to Some Awesome Prizes
Hello everyone! Spring is in the air and playoff hockey is around the corner. What an exciting time of year to be alive. To show how much we here at Open the Door to Hockey appreciates the sport of hockey and all of you, our customers, we are having two different contests you can sign up for to get a chance to win some cool prizes. We are holding these contests here at the rink and hope it encourages new customers through our doors.
Our first contest will be a simple Chuck a Puck. Anyone can participate, the rules are simple, on the day of the contest a couple of our staff members will be selling pucks with numbers on them. Purchase between one and five pucks to throw and make sure to pick your lucky number. In between the first and second period of our championship game that will be going on that Friday the 8th, everyone will throw their pucks and see who can get their puck closest to the center ice dot. The winner of this will receive a new 2016 Easton Stealth hockey stick and a gift certificate for one hundred dollars to our pro shop Dangles.
For the second contest you must be between the ages of fourteen and twenty and have to have a partner in order to participate. Six slips will be drawn at random out of a hockey helmet and with two names on a slip it will make for a total of twelve contestants. The contestants and their partner will be having a relay race to compete for two 2016 playoff hockey tickets! The official rules of the race will further be explained at the time of the event. Which will be taking place on Saturday the 9th at 11:00 a.m.
This is a great chance to have some fun, win some prizes, and make some new friends all while enjoying the best sport around, HOCKEY! We hope to see you all there.

Who Will Win The Cup?
The anticipation for the playoffs this season is killing me! I am so excited to watch the action and see who comes up big in the end. I've been thinking about this quite a bit and I came up with a small list of NHL teams that I think will win the cup this year.
The Capitals, however, are doing extremely well this year. Having acquired forward TJ Oshie, they are not to be taken lightly. They are number one in the league currently and show no signs of slowing down. They haven't won a cup in a while so they are definitely hoping this is their year.
The Ducks last won the Stanley Cup in 2007. A couple of their players from that team are still on the team today. This brings them a lot of experience and is useful to help show the younger players the ropes. Anaheim has good depth this year in the roster too with names such as Perry, Getslaf, Selanne, Koivu, and Cogliano.
Tampa Bay came really close last year to winning the cup, losing to the Chicago Blackhawks in the end. With many players returning this year to the lightning they will be just as much of a threat.Steven Stamkos is a remarkable young player and is capable of leading his team to a cup I believe.
But anything can happen in a sports game as you all know and that's what keeps things so interesting and why I enjoy watching sports, hockey in particular. If anyone has any predictions of their own feel free to share!
- Chicago Blackhawks
- Washington Capitals
- Anaheim Ducks
- Tampa Bay Lightning

Stick Em Up
The topic is hockey sticks, there are so many of them available how do you know what stick to get? You should never buy a stick just because it's brand new and just came out. You should base your decision on what works for you, what feels best in your hands? Everybody is different, people shoot the puck and stick handle in many different ways. There isn't one stick out there that you can buy and it will make you automatically good at hockey. You need to find what is comfortable in your hands and what gives you the best results.
Now there are many different brands to choose from, I personally prefer an Easton or Warrior stick. Other brands that you can't go wrong with are Bauer, CCM, Mission, or Reebok. Of course there are many more to choose from, these are just the more popular ones that come to mind. All these brands are used today in the NHL so even the pros are using this equipment.
At open the Door to Hockey we offer a selection of sticks and equipment from Easton, Bauer, Warrior, Reebok, CCM, Mission, and more. At our pro shop, Dangles, we have a area set up where you can test out your shop with different sticks on some artificial ice and a net. We have a variety of sticks from various brands taped up and available for you to test out. This is very helpful when you are torn between two sticks and don't know what one to buy. You can always listen to your friends or read some reviews online. But the best way to decide what works best for you is to actually try it out for yourself and compare. We make this possible for you to do at Open the Door to Hockey, so don't be shy and come on down today!

March Madness is Almost Here!
Open The Door To Hockey is teaming up with Red Cross for the month of march. Together we are donating time, money, and blood to help those in need. There will be donation boxes around the rink that will gladly accept any offers. Red Cross will be setting up blood donating booths so you can give blood and help out. This will be going on every Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 12pm to 5pm.
On Friday March 11th Open The Door To Hockey will be hosting a fundraising hockey tournament that will be raising money to donate to the Red Cross Foundation. For every goal scored in the tournament there will be a 200 dollar donation made by ODHockey. We will also be having a chuck a puck competition to help raise money too. To enter our tournament you will need a team of eight players and come down to ODHockey rink and sign up and get the rules.
We hope to see you all here at the rink and join us in supporting those in need and helping the Red Cross foundation by raising money. ODHockey, in honor of the Red Cross foundation, will be having a lunch at the rink. We will be having hamburgers, hot dogs, and much more. A couple members of the Red Cross foundation will be speaking at the lunch to help raise awareness about what they do and what you can do to help out. They will also answer any questions that you may have to feel free to ask. The lunch will take place at the rink on Thursday march 17th and will start at 1pm and last till 5pm. We hope to see you there!
